Wooden mallet head

Wooden mallets would have been used for various tasks around a Roman fort, including knocking in tent pegs. Wooden objects rarely survive, and only the head and a few fragments of the handle have survived in this case. The handle is still visible in the shaft-hole of the mallet head.
